DOR Learning Center

Division of Research Learning Center

The Division of Research assists researchers in all areas of the sponsored project process, from identifying funding to submitting a proposal, from setting up interim funding to closing out an award, from awards reporting to compliance. The division is structured around several offices which work as a matrix organization to provide complete assistance to the researcher:

The Office of Contracts and Grants assists faculty in obtaining external funding to support their creative and scholarly activities, and administers awards. The office is composed of a Pre-Award section and a Post-Award section.

The Research Information Center oversees the collection, storage, and dissemination of data related to sponsored research activities at the University of Houston.

Research Financial Services maintains oversight of budget and expenditures for research departments and multidisciplinary centers, manages Research HEAF awards and internal awards, and oversees the administrative, human resources, and financial management for the Division of Research.

The Office of Research Policies, Compliance and Committees provides support in all areas of university compliance with federal rules and regulations, including animal care, human subjects, conflict of interest, scientific misconduct, and responsible conduct of research.

The Office of Intellectual Property Management manages patents, copyrights, trademarks, and the effective transfer of University-wide technology to industry.

The Center for Industrial Partnerships, part of the Office of Intellectual Property Management, works with faculty and the Intellectual Property Committee to build collaborative relationships with industry.

Animal Care Operations is responsible for the health and well-being of laboratory animals used in biomedical research programs.

The Proposal/Award Life Cycle and DOR Office Processes and Services serves as a visual guide to understanding the key duties of the offices of the Division of Research.

Matrix Teams
The Division of Research’s matrix structure brings staff from various offices listed above together to efficiently accomplish duties and tasks. Doing so provides comprehensive coverage necessary for the complete and accurate management of the award process. Division, college, and unit staff who manage awards are encouraged to use the Matrix Team document as a quick reference to contacts in pre-award, post-award, finance and technology. Researchers may be assisted in proposal preparation by Research Administrators within a college/department/unit. View this document to identify whether you are assisted by a college RA.

Training Opportunities
The Division of Research facilitates training opportunities that include seminars, webinars, and conferences. For the UH research community, DOR offers the Research Administration Certification Program. RACP is a training program designed to disseminate comprehensive instruction and information pertinent to research administration at UH. View our Events webpage for a listing of current training opportunities.
